Advancing Eyelid Surgery Training Through Realistic Simulation

DFvsoeJtszXU1txZfH3vhE

At the University of Innsbruck, a new method for oculoplastic training is taking shape - literally. In collaboration with Addion GmbH, surgeons now use multilayered, condition-specific 3D printed eyelid models to practice complex interventions before entering the operating room.

These models were produced using PolyJet™ technology and Digital Anatomy™ materials like TissueMatrix® and GelMatrix®, which are designed to mirror the feel and behavior of real tissue. Trainees work through precise surgical steps, building fluency and confidence in a setting where variables can be controlled - and repeated.

This isn’t just about better tools. It’s about reshaping how surgical readiness is defined.
